Robert Rigby Architects were instructed to re-configure the existing internal accommodation of a large period house to suit the needs of the modern family. The brief included the inclusion of an additional extensive kitchen and breakfast area, to take advantage of the splendid views over the River Thames towards Pangbourne. The design brief also called for the internal spaces to flow seamlessly into one another.
In addition the entire buildings mechanical and electrical services were upgraded including the incorporation of underfloor heating at ground and first floor level, with a ground source heat pump system providing the primary heat source.
A subsequent second phase project provided for an attic conversion providing home office and ancillary family accommodation.
Simplicity was the theme for a clean, light and airy interior, making use of pale wood, glass and high specification fixtures to create comfortable, yet contemporary living spaces.
Imaginative solutions were incorporated to make full use of every space and architectural features bring natural light into the heart of the structure room optimising the ambience of every living space.
