Daneshill School, a private school near Hook, needed upgraded indoor sports facilities and a new Science Laboratory suited to addressing the ongoing, ever changing needs of child education.
With budget constraints to the fore, a feasibility analysis was conducted, reviewing the requirements of both buildings and the options for alteration and extension of existing facilities.
The findings confirmed the structural integrity of the existing sports building and as a result Robert Rigby Architects was instructed to retain the existing structural frame, incorporating additional extensions to accommodate new changing facilities and equipment storage and providing an upgraded external envelope to the entire building which is also reflected in the choice of materials for the adjacent Science Block.
For the new, single-storey building to house the school's science Labs, we combined a traditional and natural clapboard exterior with bold and modern rooflines that enhance the school environment while catching the eye of visitors.
However, our priority was to make the Science Block interior a bright, spacious, safe and functional learning space for both students and staff; a priority we fulfilled.
