It is always gratifying to retain heritage buildings, of whatever size or complexity, for future generations. In this case the subject was an unwanted, disused, and semi derelict timber barn.
Its conversion, into a private home, was also unusual as the clients’ had specific ideas over the internal space planning and accommodation requirements, maximizing the volume of the building rather than emphasizing space, and also requiring the building to include separate self-contained, annexed accommodation for an elderly relative.
High quality natural materials are used for the exterior to blend this building into its rural surrounding and stay true to the origins of the building, while modern windows discreetly open up the interior to its surroundings.
