Boundary House

Boundary House

For this commission the clients’ brief required the replacement of the existing constrained kitchen area and sub-standard rear extension with a new extension providing a modern kitchen and family room with good garden access.

The commission also included roof alterations to provide a new dormer extension to a side attic bedroom.

The property's boundaries were a challenge, requiring the new structure to be relatively long and narrow to offer the optimum amount of floorspace, but avoiding the danger of creating a dark, tunnel effect.

Robert Rigby Architects designed a space, gaining maximum benefit of natural light by the incorporation of side windows, bi-fold doors and rectangular skylights.
The interior design is simple, uncluttered and light, with kitchen surfaces at a perpendicular to the flow of the room to disrupt any narrowing perspective. The clients choice of colour for the kitchen fittings also adds the overall ambiance of the space.
